New bridge will be built in Budapest
Another major investment will make transport easier in Budapest. The bridge will affect traffic in a very positive way, making it faster and easier.
Hello Magyar wrote about a new bridge that will be built in Budapest. The works have not started yet. As of now, only the planning phase of the project has been completed. Once the bridge is built, it will make traffic more predictable and easier as well. The bridge does not have an official name yet.
Right now, freight on railways go from west to east through Budapest, on the Összekötő (connecting) railway bridge. This creates a logistics issue between Ferencváros and Kelenföld. That is why new developments are being considered and the idea of a new bridge came to be.

The new bridge will make traffic easier and more predictable. Vehicles will be able to stay on schedule, even in the case of unforeseen circumstances like accidents or weather changes. The bridge will mainly benefit the transport of people.
“If trains cross one another’s paths, one has to wait for the other to pass. It is easy to see that freight trains are the biggest disadvantage for suburban trains, as they tend to be longer and significantly harder to accelerate than passenger trains,” Dávid Vitézy wrote in a Facebook post. This issue will be solved by building the new bridge.
The railway on the new bridge will be above five other railway lines, thus making it easier for trains transporting people to stay on schedule. This way, the trains do not have to wait for freights. Traffic will be possible in both directions.
The new bridge will be “used to ‘lift’ passenger trains mainly over freight trains so that certain trains will be able to run there at the same time without crossing one another’s paths,” Vitézy explains.
The bridge was designed by architects, pontooners, and the chief architect of Budapest also took part in the planning of the bridge. The bridge will have an asymmetric design, with support pillars placed where they will have space for them. With ramps and other structures, the total length will be 839 metres.
The process of getting permission has started. The tender for the construction is expected to be announced next year.
